Privacy Policy
Last Updated: 03/04/2025
1. Introduction
Welcome to Fishkeeping Handbook (the “App”), owned and operated by Gourami Studios (“we,” “us,” or “our”). We value your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information about you when you use our App. By downloading, accessing, or using the App, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.
2. Information We Collect
2.1. Guest ID
We use Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cognito to generate a guest ID for users to allow access to images stored in our AWS S3 bucket. This ID is randomly generated and does not include any personally identifiable information about you.
2.2. Feedback via Email
When you submit an issue or feedback through the “Report Issue” feature, it opens your device's native mail application. By default, this email includes:
- Your email address (as configured on your device)
- Device information (e.g., iOS version, device model)
- App version and build number
- Any additional personal information you choose to provide in the email body
We do not link this feedback to your guest ID. The feedback is handled separately via email.
2.3. Analytics
We use Apple's built-in analytics tools (e.g., Apple Analytics/App Store analytics). These tools may collect non-personal device data (e.g., device model, operating system version, usage data) to help us understand how users interact with our App. This data is aggregated and does not directly identify you.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To Provide and Maintain the App: We use the guest ID to grant anonymous access to images stored on AWS S3 and to retrieve fish information from AWS DynamoDB.
- To Improve User Experience: We review aggregate usage information (analytics) to improve and optimize the App's content, functionality, and user experience.
- To Respond to Feedback or Issues: If you contact us via email, we may use the information you provide to respond to your query, address reported bugs, or improve the content in the App.
4. Data Retention
Guest ID: Stored on AWS Cognito, which does not contain
personal information.
Feedback Emails: Retained in our email systems for as
long as needed to respond to your request and maintain records of our
correspondence.
Analytics Data: Handled by Apple according to their
data retention policies, and we only have access to aggregated,
non-personalized reports.
5. Children's Privacy
Although our primary target audience is adults, children may also use our App. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age where parental consent is required by applicable law (e.g., under 13 in the US). If you believe we have unintentionally collected such information, please contact us at [email protected], and we will take steps to delete it.
6. International Data Transfers
We operate worldwide and use AWS, which may process and store your data on servers located in various countries. We adhere to standard security measures to protect your data. By using our App, you acknowledge and consent to the transfer, storage, and processing of your data in these countries, which may have different data protection laws than your country of residence.
7. Security Measures
We take reasonable measures to help protect information about you from loss, theft, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. AWS DynamoDB and AWS S3 typically use encryption at rest, and we use HTTPS (TLS/SSL) for data in transit.
8. Third-Party Payment Processing
Any donations you make to support the App are processed through Apple's in-app purchase (IAP) system. We do not handle or store any payment or billing information; Apple processes and retains this information according to its own terms and privacy policies.
9. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer
All fish information provided in the App is generated by artificial intelligence. While we strive to maintain accurate and helpful information, we do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any AI-generated content. By using this App, you acknowledge and understand that the fish information provided may be incomplete or contain errors. We encourage you to verify critical details through additional sources or professional advice.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make any material changes, we will notify you by updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy. Your continued use of the App after any changes indicates your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
